Auburn "Swede Umbach" MS & JV Tournament (11-23-2013)

On November 23rd the St.Anne+Pacelli Wrestling team took 10 MS wrestlers and 2 HS wrestlers to compete in the "Swede Umbach" MS & JV Wrestling Tournament in Auburn, AL and had 6 wrestlers come home with medals.

73lb, 6th grader, Noah Nugent - 3rd place
8th grader Jose Altamirano - 3rd place

This was the first ever tournament for both boys and their first ever wrestling matches. Very very well done and a huge congratulations to both boys. JOB WELL DONE

The other 2 MS placers were;

Light HWT - Ben Miller - 1st place
Hwt - Ash Vestal 1st place

Ash and Ben dominated the Heavy Weight class by pinning all of their opponents in the first round. When you consider all the schools at this tournament were 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A schools this is a great accomplishment!!!!!! These are 2 boys to watch in the future as they will only get better and better.

Honorable Mentions:

Shane Hester, Dustin Jones and Carson Risdon put up good matches and showed great promise. These were the first matches ever for Carson and Dustin and they faired very well. Shane Hester just happened to be in the toughest weight class in the entire tournament and I expect great things from him throughout the season.

First year wrestler Vincent Orsini won his very first match of the day and of his short wrestling career before losing the next 2 in very tough battles. Vincent is another to watch as he learns how to wrestle.

Second year wrestler Lucas Jenkins won 2 and lost 2. He has come a long way since last year and really showed great potential in both his wins and losses and is going to be fun to watch this season.

Last but not least our 2 JV wrestlers;

145lb - 9th grader Tanner Hall took 4th place
152lb - 10th grader Brian Alexander took 3rd place

If this is any indication of how this season is going to go we are in for a very fun and exciting season. I am honored to be on this journey with these boys as are the other St.Anne+Pacelli Coaches.

All these boys work very very hard in the practice room and Wrestling is far from an easy sport. I'm very proud of them all!!!!!!
